Bailey Homes owner Shawn Bailey went back to school last week to talk about his career with the grade 11 Building Construction Trades class at Portage Collegiate Institute. Shawn emphasised the need for a skilled and talented workforce, and talked with the 25 students about the importance of teamwork and dependability which are characteristics that business owners seek from employees.
By inviting experts to class each year, PCI puts the focus on career exploration, and showing students some of the job opportunities available in our area.
“What Shawn brings to the table is authenticity and entrepreneurship like no other.” says Portage la Prairie School Division Career Development Coordinator Blair Hordeski.
“Possibly he connected with a young version of him and was able to give the student some good ideas.”
Hordeski is hoping Shawn will be able to come back to speak to first year grade nine students in a more general setting, and give them some ideas about the direction they want their education to take early in their high school career.
